The Figure Workshop Services

Tag Coaching Services: I have realized more and more how important it is for a competitor to have a “Tag Coach” with them at their pre-judging portion of their competition. I cannot tell you how many times I tell my clients how important it is. I have also worked with their trainers at their one-on-one Workshops coaching their trainers teaching them proper “Tag Words” for the pre-judging portion of my client’s competition. The only problem that arises is that the trainer often has several other clients competing the same day and finds it difficult to concentrate on one client only. This is why I have decided to add this service to my list of services and introduce to my clients a very precise service which I know you all will love.

If a client hires me as their personal Tag Coach for their pre-judging portion and even if I have other clients in their division, having me as their personal Tag Coach for their division I will not be allowed to tag coach other competitors in that division because you have paid me for that service. It’s like when I go to a competition and I have clients there who have paid me to teach them posing and a stranger who I have not coached asks me for free advice on posing. I would never give out free advice to anyone at a show when I have clients there who have paid for my services. It’s unethical as a professional and unfair to my clients who have paid me for my services. Therefore, if a client has paid me to Tag Coach me for their pre-judging portion it would be unfair for me to Tag Coach another competitor in your division who has not. So let’s go into “what is a Tag Coach” for those of you who have not worked with me yet and who are first looking at this service for the first time…. And by the way, I recently went to a competition and had a client on the stage who was only listening to her husband coaching her, I jumped in and tag coached her and truly believe if I was not there, she would not have received her pro card that day because I made sure her posing was on the money and her husband while he meant well, just didn’t know what she really needed to do to bring out her best to really hit it up there…..

What is a Tag Coach
Whenever I meet a client for the first time at my workshops, it always seems that they ask the same question “why do people always scream things to the competitors during pre-judging? Is it because they don’t know what they are doing“ I tell them it is exactly the opposite. The people they hear yelling are (or should be) there to help the competitors, not criticize them. They are the competitor’s “Tag Coach” (I invented that name) to give them the guidance and support and call out certain words to help them pose correctly.

Believe it or not, as a competitor, your Tag Coach is the most important person to have with you on the day of your show, not your friends, backstage helper, husband, boyfriend, co-worker, clients or anyone else who comes to see you compete (although the more support, the better and all of those people should be appreciated for being there for you on your big day)..

Your Tag Coach’s job is to sit in the audience as close to the stage as he or she can so you can see and hear him/her during pre-judging (which in most competitions consists of two rounds). He/she will watch to make sure you stand correctly during each pose as the head judge calls out the quarter turns. If at any time during this period your posing needs correcting, your Tag Coach yells out specific Tag Words. It is crucial that competitors and Tag Coaches determine those words prior to the competition, so when the athletes hear their Tag Coachs’ voice from the audience, they know how to correct their posing. I work with Tag Coaches in many of my Workshops, teaching them how to watch for their athletes’ mistakes onstage and correct them by using my Tag Words. But as stated above, I am finding that more and more, trainers have so many clients competing in the same shows that is has become harder and harder for a trainer to concentrate on one client fully and often he or she will have several clients in one class. My goal is to be hired for one client in one class each time so you, the client will get the full effect of Tag Coaching to the fullest benefit and really see how well Tag Coaching works if done properly and one on one. It is always advisable to get to know your Tag Coach’s voice. The reason for this is I don’t suggest to any Tag Coach to call out the competitor’s name or number. If you are being corrected on stage a lot imagine how embarrassing it would be to hear your name and number being constantly called out. Not to mention, your confidence level could now be effected because you now might think that the judges will be constantly looking at you in a bad way because you don’t know what you’re doing up there. So let’s just keep it to getting to know the Tag Coach’s voice, no number, no name will be called out.

Volume is a consideration here as well. There will be many voices at large competitions, and it can be quite difficult to hear your Tag Coach in the crowd. You must make sure that the voice is not only recognizable, but also loud enough to hear. Not to worry, if it’s me it’s never an issue

I don’t want to go into actual Tag Words in this but I do want to reiterate the importance of a Tag Coach. Anyone who has competed knows that during pre-judging you will be competing in two rounds, whether it’s Figure or Bikini and if it’s Ms. Fit Body only round two. The first round is your “T-walk” (as I made up this word too) or your “model walk” and most Tag Coaches do not get very involved here but you will definitely need to work with a stage coach for this (hopefully me because that is my forte!!!). But again, you will really need to nail this because this is the very first time the judges see you and you need to make a serious mark in their heads now!!! But a Tag Coach should be there to make proper eye contact with you to build your confidence in this round and also to do the “pointing” to the areas on the stage for you. Working with me in the Workshops will help with this.

The second round is your quarter turns or mandatory posing where the head judge will call out a series of quarter turns. The first pose is “face front”. In this pose I can tell you right off the bat there are eight (8) Tag Words I can think of right off the top of my head where I can call out to a client where they can make or break placing first place or falling way back in the line up. Yup, it’s that easy if you don’t know what you are doing… The second pose is your “side pose”, here the same, there are approximately eight (8) Tag Words I can think of without looking at my list and again, it can make or break you. The next is ‘face the curtain” or “back pose” and again, there are about six (6) Tag Words in this pose. Then another “side pose” and back to a “front pose”.

Now you see why I have decided to add this service to my list of services. I see many clients leave my Workshops with the confidence and conditioning they need and they know their posing and t-walk well enough to place top three but then some tell me they get to the show and some get on the stage and feel they

would have done better if I was there, etc. Then I realized the few times that I was, the clients placed 1st and 2nd. Mind you many have placed 1st and 2nd even with me not there, but with me Tag Coaching I do notice my clients do have a better chance of placing even higher with me as a Tag Coach. Therefore, I want to offer this service to all of you now because I want all my clients to succeed and do their very best!!! Anyone interested and would like to know more about how to arrange for this service, contact me at jmarsico@thefigureworkshop.com
Remember, it’s all about Stage Presence.

One On One Workshop: This is an hour Workshop where you work one-on one with Janet for one hour alone.  Janet covers everything from A-Z with you regarding your contest preparation, including suit choice, tanning, shoe selection, skin preparation, choosing your show, and even "how to market yourself in the industry".  She will even teach you her very own "signature pose" during this session!  This particular type of a setting gives you an opportunity for you and Janet to "tweak" your stances and have exclusive one-on one time together to figure out exactly what areas you need more coaching on and what areas you do not.  This one on one setting also gives you an opportunity to fine tune each and every pose in great detail, including the "right foot pivot", the "individual T-Walk", the "quarter turns" and how to really "work that stage!"  Janet will also provide you with all the contacts needed for all resources.

Group Workshops: There are several types of Group Workshops offered:

Mini Group Workshop: (1 hour, with 2-3 people); this type of a Group Workshop you can book with a friend.  It is a nice way to save some money and get a discount on a One On One Workshop.  It is as close to a One On One setting as you can get, plus you can have fun by bringing a friend along!!

Group Workshop: (2 hours consisting of 5 or more people):  This Group Workshop is also another option, plus, if you look on our "Workshops" page, you will see our "Refer a Friend" program.  If you refer 3 friends, you can get a discount off your Workshop and really save some money!!!!  So this type of a Workshop can really be a fun one!!!

Discounted Monthly Group Workshops:  This is our best cost-efficient Group Workshop ever.  It is a two-hour class and  is a great way for you to brush up on what you have already learned from individual “One On One” workshops. As a beginner the “One on One’s” are necessary in order to fully master the stage. In the “One On One” workshops I am able to work with you individually and help you in your stances and "T" walk catering to your unique physique and tweak and fine tune all your moves. I will be able to help you display your strong areas and teach you how to hide any flaws as well. In the group settings you will not get that individual attention. After you have a solid working knowledge of what we cover in the “One on One” sessions moving on to the group workshops is a perfect next step progression because you will work in a group setting along with other competitors with training from myself and other WNBF Pro Figure Competitors.  Also, with this Group Workshop, as with the others, with our "Refer a Friend" program, if you refer 3 friends and they sign up, your fee is waived for this particular Group Workshop!!

This class will be for competitors at all levels. So do not worry if you are a first-time competitor, a conditioned competitor, or even at the Pro level. We plan on structuring these Group Workshops so that each and every one of you will be comfortable and able to participate.

Internet Services:
For those of you who live too far to travel to New York to come to an actual Workshop, I provide internet services as well. What this entails is, first and foremost, I would request a retainer fee (money orders only). This fee covers the following services:
-Initial critiquing of photographs (which you will send me once I contact you); and

-A detailed description of the front, back and side stances, with photographs and visuals which include six (6) e-mails afterwards between us for follow up and additional coaching. After that point, should you decide to move forward and continue with my help as far as guidance as to any suggestions I may have and continued critiquing (with you sending me photographs of you in the stances as practiced) we would discuss an additional retainer at that point. Of course, as I do with all my clients, quick questions here and there I am always available for. That goes without say.
